outreach in progress
Morning mists rise in the hills over Río de Janeiro, and a
helicopter hovers overhead—likely filming some event. The statue of Christ the
Redeemer is obscured by grey fog, while all around the city wakes up. Today,
teams will mingle among the tourists and locals, braving the crowds to distribute
books, cards, and brochures.
On Sunday, the Fiel team visited ten churches. We found
rooms piled high with brown boxes, men and women excited about the
distribution. We stacked by language, snapped a few pictures, and discussed
this past weekend of distribution at the first events of the Olympic Games.
The goals of this week are twofold: to put resources in the
hands of a million men, women, and children, and to encourage local churches in
their efforts of evangelism. To this end, we encourage a mix of conversational
evangelism along with the widespread distribution of these books, and we pray
that the Spirit would be pleased to act through both. May His Word come alive
in hearts and lives across Río, and may the fruit spread out to as many cities
and countries as have gathered here.
